Welcome to The Places Where We Go - banner

We’re Julie & Art, two Southern California natives who live in one of the best climates in the world. There’s more for us to do and experience in our home state than we’ll ever be able to do.  Still, that doesn’t stop us from traveling near and far – domestically and internationally.  We’re all about exploring this great wide world. This About Us page provides more information about who we are and how we travel.

The Places Where We Go is where we share our experiences and memories from our travels – hoping to inspire our audience to visit new places and seek adventure.

On our website, you’ll find articles about the places we visit. We sprinkle in a bit of history, culture, and culinary highlights from the road we travel.

You’ll find stories from our trips to National Parks in the USA and places unique to us, including
Poland and the United Kingdom in Europe.

Who We Are

We’re a couple from Simi Valley, California, who loves to travel. Whether the journey is a far-away adventure or a local road trip doesn’t matter to us. We thrive on the types of new experiences that travel brings.

Adventures await as there are places to go, things to do, people to meet, and food to eat. It’s one stop at a time for us, soaking up new experiences along the way.

We share our experiences to help fellow travelers like you explore wonderful destinations. On our blog, you’ll read about places we’ve visited, including the top tips and highlights from places worldwide.

Why We Travel

We’ve had our share of health scares – some that brought us to the brink of the doorstep of the afterlife. We realize our time on earth is limited and very precious.  So, as travel is vital to us, we’ve been on a quest to see and experience as many things as we can for as long as we can.

And because others in the travel community inspired ideas for our itineraries, we owe it to other travelers to share our stories.

How We Travel

Our preferred style of travel is what we call DIY Travel.  We’re much less likely to choose pre-packaged experiences. Instead, we rely on doing pre-trip research, immersing ourselves in unknown locations, and letting ourselves go in the moment.

Our pace on the road is busy and active. We want to see as much as possible when we find ourselves in new locations.  Still, we take time to relax and enjoy the vibes of new places. And one of our favorite things to do is experience cuisine we can’t get back home.

When it comes to accommodations, we lean toward quality over frugality.  Our typical approach is to filter accommodations to 8 out of 10 or better for traveler ratings and find reasonable proximity to the places we want to explore – or at least have easy access to our chosen destinations.  We enjoy bed and breakfast inns and non-corporate unique types of lodgings when available.

And during our travels, we tend to walk a lot.  At a minimum, on a typical travel day, we generally put in a minimum of 20,000 steps.  That’s one way to get to know a place– by walking its streets and being in the heart of the action with the locals.

We anticipate readers of our blogs to be curious, interested in personal growth, and seeking to learn about tips and tricks for travel.

Recognizing life is limited, we know we won’t be able to keep up our pace on the road without limits. But until our bodies tell us otherwise, we’ll keep getting to as many new places as possible, sharing our stories with our readers.

The times when we’ve met readers and viewers when we’ve been out exploring have been genuinely memorable moments. We hope you stop us to say hi if you ever recognize us out on the road.
