Introducing The Polish Forces at RAF Halton Resource

Today March 14th is my father’s birthday – BolesÅ‚aw Dobrucki. On this day in 2023, he would have celebrated his 95th birthday. Sadly, he passed away in 1994 at the too-young age of 66. He was a husband, father, brother, and uncle. And in his youth, he served as a member of the Polish Forces at RAF Halton.

Among the stories that comprised the fantastic journey of his life were the several years he spent at RAF Halton during his youth as part of the Polish Aircraft Apprentices.

Collected Stories and Images – Polish Aircraft Apprentices

Over the past few years, our research and travels added to this story. We have collected images and stories connected to the contribution of amazing Poles who left a legacy through their time at RAF Halton.

Collecting these stories has helped me to remember and further understand the episodes conveyed during my younger years. From my father and his mates, I was told of the incredible experiences shared by young teenage boys ripped away from their Polish homeland. By some miracle, their story of survival would include being found in Palestine following exile from Poland to Russia. There, the Royal Air Force selected over one hundred Polish boys to serve the Allied cause. The journey to England included transport over dangerous waters around the Cape of Africa to Liverpool and ultimately, a several-year commitment at RAF Halton.

The Halton Chronicles – A Polish History Chapter

This effort of our Halton Chronicles aims to help others like us who seek to understand the story of their ancestors who were part of this same story. We also hope to provide information useful to those interested in the Polish history of WWII.

Our additions are a small puzzle piece of an all-too-large picture – still difficult to grasp and understand fully. But out in the world are others like us – sons and daughters, grandsons and granddaughters of people whose story included a chapter at RAF Halton as part of the Polish History Chapter.
