Our visit to the Barker Tea House in Cardiff, Wales inspired this recipe for Jackfruit Bloomer. One of our lunch items during our visit was Bloomer with Jackfruit, a vegetarian option described as tasting like pulled pork.

This jackfruit bloomer recipe provides vegetarians an option to satisfy a faux pulled pork taste.

Ingredients

  • 1 15 oz. can jackfruit, drained and rinsed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and finely chopped (optional)
  • ¼ cup barbecue sauce (a little more is fine)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon ground coriander
  • ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

    Break apart the jackfruit into small shredded size pieces

    Warm the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and sauté for about 5 minutes. Next, add the garlic and jalapeño pepper, cooking for an additional minute.

    Add the jackfruit to the skillet and stir into the onions. Next, add the barbecue sauce and remaining spices.

    Stir to coat the jackfruit well with the mixture and continue cooking for 5 minutes.

    Add the jackfruit to your bread.
