Lance 2075 Travel Trailer

Impressive Lance 2075 Debut at the California RV Show

We headed out to the California RV Show for its closing weekend.  We were keenly interested in the new Lance 2075 travel trailer and the latest RV industry models. In this post, we look at the Lance 2075 travel trailer and several other units that caught our attention.

This year, the RV show finds itself in a new location.  We’ve previously attended the Pomona Fairgrounds.  The 2019 show was hosted at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana.

Our travel trailer wishlist

We arrived bright and early to get inside at the 10 am show opening.  With tickets in hand, we were off to explore travel trailers.  Would we find our future trailer today?

Our research on trailers has become quite lengthy – two years and counting.  Camping for us still involves hauling our tent up to the mountains.  And we do enjoy the experience.  But as time passes, we think a different experience may soon have a place for us.  As we’ve encountered tent camping surprises with unexpected rain storms, snow storms, and a leaky tent, the thought of a more protective sleeping environment does have some appeal.

After two years of thinking about trailer possibilities, we took a big step forward one year ago by purchasing a Ford F250 Diesel truck.  Now, we need a unit to hitch to the back of the truck. We’ve also landed on a layout ideally that does not include a slide.  We like the configuration of a bed in the front and a dining table in the back.  A dual-axle model is also part of our checklist.  With these items on the want list, our choices are limited.

Springdale 202QBWE – First Look

We first pass by some units from Springdale.  An aggressive salesperson takes us to a model that matches several of our target elements on paper.  We see the 202QBWE.  It’s a step in the right direction, but we think we might find something we like better, so we keep on looking.

Airstream has been our dream

It wasn’t long before we came to the area with our dream trailer – Airstream.  We’ve seen these a few times during our research, and Airstream has been at the top of our list.  We take a look at a few 2020 models.  The 25-foot unit has an appealing length.  However, the sideways bed leaves a challenge for the person sleeping closest to the window to get out of bed in the middle of the night. The 27-foot unit solves the sleeping problem nicely with a walk-around bed.  This unit, though, is of a length that we know will keep us out of some national parks and has a somewhat alarming price tag.  The unit we saw with the hatch opening comes in at $107,000.

Lance Travel Trailers

Our next stop is Lance. The first trailer we came upon is the brand new Lance 2075 travel trailer.  This trailer is so unique that at the time of our visit to the RV show, this unit wasn’t even listed on the Lance official website.  Our friends attended the RV show the previous weekend and told us about seeing a unit from Lance that checked the box on many of our checklist items.  Not seeing anything on the Lance website to confirm this, we finally spied a press release confirming their new non-slide unit.

The New Lance 2075 – The Airstream Killer?

Our reaction to the new Lance 2075 was, “Wow.”  This trailer offers a floor plan that focuses on storage and usable space. We started with a view of the trailer’s backend.  An outside kitchen with a two-burner stove on one side, a pull-out countertop, and a small refrigerator unit on the right-hand side is offered as an option.  What a great option to accommodate outdoor cooking at the campground.

Lance 2075 Interior

We see a layout that hits the checkmarks on most of our wish list items.  There is a rear dinette unit.  The seating is super comfortable.  We notice a night and day comfort level between this unit and most other manufacturers, such as Springdale and Jayco.  I thought the comfort level was comparable to Airstream, while Julie said the Lance offered better comfort in the dinette.

The table was a bit wobbly, so I’d like to see this in a unit that becomes available for sale and hasn’t toured the country for 6,000 miles from show to show.  The table is movable, offering options for various seating arrangements.  The seats are long enough to sit sideways in comfort to watch TV.  Hardware in cabinets appears to be of high quality – similar to the quality we see in Airstreams, and again, a significant step up from most other manufacturers.  The window between the dinette area and the outside can be fully open – creating an excellent pass-through option for cooking inside and outside the trailer.

Lance 2075 – Kitchen, Bedroom, Bathroom

The kitchen offered a two-burner stove in the kitchen – enough for our needs.  There is no oven, however, but that is not a drawback for us.

The bathroom is a nice size with a shower unit that I could stand in without any issues.  The sink looks fancy.  I did have a question mark on the toilet on a raised platform.  I took it for a test sit – I think it would be ok, but should we decide to move forward on this model, we’ll want to ensure this configuration will work for us.

The bedroom area offers a walk-around queen bed that is 80 inches long.  The bedroom has a lot of light, with windows over the mattress and a skylight.  The windows provide flexible options for opening, screens, and shade.

The Lance 2075 – Coming December 2019

The model at the show is a prototype, as actual units won’t be in showrooms until December.  We were told the final production unit would be one foot longer than this prototype unit and include some minor reconfiguration in the kitchen area.  The base price of the Lance 2075 was $36,940, while the unit configured at the show, with just about every option available, came in at a show price of $50,219.  This is about double the non-slide Springdale and Jayco units we saw – but on the other side, half of the 27-foot Airstream price.

Lance 2075 – Exterior

Continuing our look on the outside, we were impressed with the number of storage compartments available.  There are three 45-gallon tanks for fresh, gray, and black water.  Options for solar and lithium batteries make this trailer a viable boondocking unit.

Our most significant question mark on the Lance versus the Airstream is the sleeping capacity.  The Lance is limited to four for sleeping, while the Airstream 27 foot can accommodate six.  Our final decision, likely in 2020, will probably hinge on the sleeping situation.  Four might end up working for us.  In any event, this trailer was the show’s star for us.  We heard whispers of this unit starting to pick up the nickname “Airstream Killer” – and it just might be.

Vintage Wanderlust at the California RV Show

We enjoyed looking at some vintage (actual and reproduction) units on display.  Happier Camper has some excellent retro-type trailers, albeit on the small side.

A 1948 Trailercraft on display was noted as the only one known to exist.  Super vintage!

Wanderlust vintage trailers looked cool too.  Way retro.

Exploring Jayco Trailers

The last trailers that matched our desired layout configurations included the Jayco 212 QBW and 224BHW.

Got accessories?

Before leaving the show, we browsed the accessories tent.  The outdoor power station and solar options are handy for RV life and can be used at home in emergencies.  We’ll note this on the list of things to look into further at home.

I also spy some smoker units.  I don’t think I would bring something like this camping – but maybe it’s a future purchase for the house.

Lance 2075 – The Goldilocks Trailer

We came to view non-slide, non-bunkhouse travel trailers.  On one end, Springdale and Jayco offered affordability at the expense of quality at higher prices.  Conversely, Airstream is still attractive, though at a difficult-to-accommodate price point.  Ultimately, we think the Lance 2075 travel trailer may be our Goldilocks unit.
